How to lose weight after Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a beautiful phase because it gives immense joy and fulfilment to the women, by bringing a new life into the world. Although, postpartum weight retention is a thing, but you can overcome it easily if you follow a proper diet & detoxify your body on regular intervals.

One of my patients, Mrs Qadri from the UK, came to Mumbai while I was working at my clinic. She was overwhelmed with the response that my guidance & tips delivered. Around one and a half years ago, her weight-gain was drastic due to her first delivery. She & her husband were planning for their second child, but there was no luck. Also, other treatments like IVF brought more weight-gain. She then followed my diet & detoxification tips and dramatically saw the difference. In 6 months, she lost 20kgs, which eventually resolved the hormonal imbalance & cured her infertility issues.

Pregnancy is one of the most common causes of radical weight-gain. Ayurveda suggests it’s better to maintain a balanced weight, rather than being fat. Taking efforts & reducing that extra-weight will help solve a lot of problems. You just have to believe in yourself & work hard towards your goal.

My first recommendation would be to stay away from these -

  • Oily Food
  • Wheat
  • Tomato
  • Tamarind
  • Curd/Yogurt
  • Red Meat
  • Dairy Products
  • Sweets

Removing the above items from your diet will -

  • Balance the hormones
  • Make the metabolism perfect
  • Reduce the swelling(fats)

1) Day 1-2

The first 2 days, consume only boiled water that has 1 /2 tbsp Ginger Powder (Suntha Powder). Five glasses will be enough; this will remove the unwanted toxins and give you the needed energy, in turn improving the metabolism.

2) Day 3-5

Throughout the day, whenever you are hungry, prepare a soup using Mung Beans. Take the greeny mung beans, mix water in it & properly cook it with the spices that you need. This will melt the fat deep inside & start relieving the blockages.
(You can also consume Tea/Coffee twice a day, to avoid headaches)

3) Day 6-10

These last 5 days, only consume the gravy form of Mung beans & vegetables (of your choice), throughout the day. You can experiment with a variety of Mung Recipes during this period; it will help in eliminating the melted toxins out from the body.

After these 10 days, you can start eating other normal food (but not the ones that I told you to avoid earlier).

Throughout the diet - you should maintain the proportion of Vegetables & Protein. It should be 2 bowls of Veggies & 1 bowl of Protein. All legumes, fish, egg & chicken comes under the protein column. You can also include a 1/2 bowl Carbs intake, if you want. This proportion will benefit a lot in your weight-loss expedition.

Here’s a quick home remedy from me that will help you in this expedition -

  • 1 tbsp Barley water
  • 1 tbsp Jeera(cumin seeds powder)
  • 1 tbsp Fennel seeds powder
  • 1/4 tbsp Ajwain
  • 1 pinch Hing & 1/4 tbsp Ginger Powder
  • Add 3 glasses of water & Kokam (Garcinia Indica)
  • Mix & Pressure cook this properly and consume it twice a day.

    I know it's a long way ahead, but just like the old times - 'Slow & Steady Wins the Race'.
