Transform Your Health with Ayurvedic Wonder Herb – Psyllium

20-Apr-2023

Psyllium fiber, in particular, is most effective in Ayurveda for relieving chronic constipation by increasing stool frequency and reducing straining. Many researchers suggested Psyllium as a first-line treatment for chronic constipation a result of this.

Psyllium also known as Isabgol is an effective remedy for acidity and heartburn, according to Ayurveda. Isabgol lubricates the membrane walls as it travels through the food pipe and stomach, reducing irritation caused by excess acid. Absorbing the acid also moves excess acid from the stomach to the intestines. As a result, it helps alleviate the signs of heartburn and hyperacidity thanks to these mechanisms.

An estimated 12% of people worldwide suffer from chronic constipation, defined as having fewer than three bowel movements per week for more than six months. However, since there are no more consistent recommendations for treating chronic constipation, many patients are forced to experiment with various relief methods, frequently failing.

One study found that psyllium fiber, pectin, inulin, and wheat bran—all fiber supplements—provided people with the greatest relief from chronic constipation. In addition, psyllium supplements and fiber doses of at least 10 grams per day—roughly two tablespoons—were found by researchers to be the most effective forms of fiber supplementation.

According to the findings, Psyllium may be a first-line treatment for people with chronic constipation who specifically experience straining, hard stools, and infrequent bowel movements. However, it might not be the most effective treatment for people who have other symptoms like bloating or not being able to urinate.

Psyllium is made from the husks of the seeds of the Plantago ovata, which is commonly found in India. How to Add More Fiber to Your Diet Numerous studies have demonstrated that this type of fiber, combined with water, can thicken stools and facilitate their easier passage through the digestive tract.

Pectin, the other most beneficial supplement, is more prevalent in the fruits and vegetables we frequently consume (think: lemons, grapefruit, oranges, carrots, and apples). According to research, people taking pectin supplements had more frequent bowel movements and less time on the toilet.

Fiber can improve overall health by alleviating constipation and promoting a healthy gut microbiome.

It is essential to increase your fiber intake gradually. Your microbiome and gastrointestinal tract can adapt to fiber consumption, but this takes time—often several weeks. The key to fibre is to start low and progress slowly. Along with the fiber, you should drink enough water to enable the stool to form comfortably.

Even though fiber is generally safe, too much consumption can cause gas, bloating, and discomfort.

It is also important to remember that every person will probably require a slightly different amount of fiber. For example, some people may require more than 10 grams daily, while others may require less, depending on their gut health.
